Selecting Photo Albums and Scrapbooks to Suit Your Needs

Research has shown that viewing photo albums and/or scrapbooks of family members, people you know, or places where you have been is a great way to reduce stress, and a wonderful way to relax. Photo albums are the simplest and safest way to store your photos for easy reference. There are a myriad of photo album designs available but most important for your photo album selection would be to know how many photos you would like to put into a photo album. You can group your photos with different subject matter such as family photos, travel photos, events, friends, etc. and to have specific photo albums for each subject. Most photo albums are either library bound like a book and hold a certain number and size of prints or you can get photo albums that can be expanded to add additional photos as the need arises. Once you have decided what photos you would like in your album, you can base your selection on how many photos you would need a photo album to hold. Other things to consider are how much shelf space you have to store your photo albums, how many photos you would like to have on one page, whether you need your photo album to hold photos all in one direction or a combination of horizontal and vertical orientation.

When it comes to scrapbooks, having your photo images and/or memorabilia grouped together by subject matter makes assembling your scrapbook all the easier. It is best to keep your scrapbook simple and, as you progress with your project, new ideas and combinations will come to you that will make your scrapbook unique. The most popular type of scrapbook is the memory book which typically uses a clear plastic, top loading pocket which has a removable card stock insert which slides out so that you can attach your photos, embellishments or documents to and then slip back into the protective pocket. You can use a variety of adhesive items to keep your photos attached to scrapbook pages. In the event that you would like to remove photos from a scrapbook page in the future it may be best to use photo corners. It would be the photo corners which attach to the scrapbook page. Other items that can be used are acid free photo glue sticks or mounting squares which work like double adhesive tape. There are paper page scrapbooks still available and most of the scrapbooks which are intended for photos will have a tissue thin sheet between each of the scrapbook pages which is called interleaving. This allows for photos to be placed on the front and back of scrapbook pages and prevents the photos from coming in contact with each other. Whatever way you assemble or embellish your scrapbook it will be unique. Some albums even offer a combination of photo album pages and scrapbook pages to make your project all the more inclusive and creative.
